SHABBONA – A free movie will be shown on an outdoor screen at Shabbona Lake State Park at dusk, about 6:30 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 6. The featured film is "Transformers 3," a 2011 science fiction-action movie starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro.

Pokanoka's Cafe at the park will be open until  6 p.m.

The movie will be shown on a 144-square-foot screen near the cafe. Bring lawn chairs and blankets and reminisce about the "good old days" of drive-in theaters.

Clint and Heather Sands, park concessionaires and owners of the cafe and Lakeside Bait and Tackle, are committed to expanding the role of the park. Traditionally, the park has been a recognized mostly as a fishing destination. Their goal is to feature some of the other great qualities of Shabbona Lake State Park, such as hiking, camping, bird watching, kayaking, picnicking or simply enjoying the great outdoors. Several new free family-oriented events are on the planning table for this fall and winter.
