Browns' to add dollar store

SYCAMORE – Browns’ County Market owner Dan Brown announced Family Dollar will join the store’s Sycamore location.

Family Dollar will set up in about 9,000 square feet of existing space in Browns’ County Market. Brown said the stores will not directly connect and Family Dollar will have a separate entrance.

“They are a growing company and they have a great brand ... so if they are going to come to town anyway, why not have them next to you?” Brown said.

Brown said he expects construction of the store to begin after Thanksgiving.

The day of the announcement, Nov. 8, also marked the final day of operation for the Genoa Browns’ County Market. The company invested $4 million into the location when it opened in 2005. Brown said the economic downturn hurt the business in 2009 and the business never recovered.

“We, as supermarket operators, take responsibility for not doing something to garner the support of the Genoa community to make it their supermarket of choice,” he said in a written statement. “Unfortunately, we never achieved the sales needed to succeed.”

Eggleston’s Pharmacy in the Genoa location will remain open.
