Smokeout urges smokers to quit, just for a day

DEKALB — The DeKalb County Health Department will observe the 37th annual Great American Smokeout on Thursday, Nov. 15. The Great American Smokeout is an annual day to spotlight the benefits of quitting smoking and to encourage smokers to kick the habit permanently, or at least quit for the day.

“The Great American Smokeout is a great starting point to quit or at least cut back on the number of cigarettes smoked,” DeKalb County Public Health Administrator Jane Lux said.

Quitting is difficult, but smokers can increase their chances of success with help. The Illinois Tobacco Quitline (1-866-784-8937) is provided  by  the  Illinois  Department  of Public Health and the American Lung Association and offers free, convenient and confidential
counseling by Mayo Clinic-trained respiratory therapists and nurses.
