Concert features holiday variety

SYCAMORE – The DeKalb Festival Chorus will give its holiday concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of St. John, 26555 Brickville Road in Sycamore. Tickets are $10 and available at the door.

The concert features works by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelssohn, Ola Gjielo and Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck; dramatic works with percussion, including the Nigerian carol “Betelehemu;” and music from the American shape-note, Appalachian and gospel quartet traditions. It also includes a rocking arrangement of the Hanukkah song “S’vivon,” the wartime classic “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” and a world premiere by the chorus’ conductor, Seth Houston.

In addition to the choir, the concert features soprano Moonja Jeong, organist Jim Nerstheimer, pianist Abigail Mooge and a percussion ensemble.
