Volunteer tax aides needed

Published: Monday, Dec. 24, 2012 1:08 p.m. CDT

AARP Tax Aide is a free service offering tax preparation assistance to people with low to moderate income, especially senior citizens. The service is provided by trained local volunteers who want to make a difference in their communities.

The program needs volunteers to help people prepare their tax returns in DeKalb, Genoa and Sycamore in 2013.

No experience is necessary to volunteers, just a desire to help others. AARP Tax Aide will train all volunteers at Ideal Training Center on Park Avenue in Sycamore Jan. 9 through 11 and Jan. 14, beginning at 9 a.m. each day.

Tax service begins Feb. 1 and lasts through April 13. Volunteers will work at the DeKalb Senior Center, DeKalb County Outreach Building, Sycamore United Methodist Church, Resource Bank-Genoa, Ideal Training Center, DeKalb Public Library and Kirkland Municipal Center. Each site is open one day a week. Any amount time volunteers are able to contribute is appreciated.

To volunteer or for more information, call county coordinator Dave Leifheit at 815-895-2430 or 815-757-1800.
