Based on a play written by Bertolt Brecht, a middle-aged German actress and her friends in the early 1930s fearfully witness the fall of the socialist Weimar Republic and the rise of Adolph Hitler. A subplot tells the story of Zillah, a 1990s New Yorker who believes that Ronald Reagan is becoming like Hitler.
