A researcher from the Field Museum visited sixth-grade social studies classes at Clinton Rosette Middle School in DeKalb to talk about ancient Egypt and display some artifacts students could touch and pass around. After learning about mummification, students practiced wrapping stuffed dummies following Egyptian custom. They then pretended to be the professional mourners sometimes hired by ancient Egyptians and wailed for their mummies. Pictured are students Karla Alvarez, Kaitlin Siener, Claudia Diaz and Sadie Burton wrapping their mummy.
