Bus trips for art lovers

DeKALB – The Northern Illinois University Art Museum has scheduled the spring 2013 Get on the Bus trips. Meet other art lovers and see innovative exhibits, all without the hassle of traffic, tolls and parking. The art museum makes the itinerary and all arrangements; all riders have to do is sign up and pay by the posted deadline.

Trips depart from the NIU School of Art parking lot, at the northeast corner of Gilbert and College avenues on Northern Illinois University’s DeKalb campus, unless otherwise specified.

• Over-Nighter: Milwaukee/Racine (April 25-28)
Trip features museums and gardens, sites and tours that focus on an array of architectural styles, and traditional and contemporary decorative arts. Sites include Mitchell Conservatory, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Johnson Wax Building, the Flemish-renaissance style Pabst Mansion, Milwaukee Art Museum, Lynden Sculpture Gardens and more. • Chicago Cultural Heritage Museums II (Friday, May 17)
The group continues its cultural tour around Chicago with The Indo American Center on Devon Avenue, Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art and The Ukrainian National Museum in the Ukrainian Village. Bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 6:30 p.m. Members, $30, students and seniors, $35, all others, $40. Price includes entrance fees and transportation; meals not included. Registration and payment deadline is May 15.

• Chicago Cultural Heritage Museums III (Friday, June 7)
Visit the Swedish-American Museum and enjoy Swedish meatballs (or the like) in Andersonville before visiting the Dank Haus in Lincoln Square. Beer, brats and all
things German will be available. Bus leaves at 9 a.m. and returns at 7:30 p.m. Members, $25, students and seniors, $30, all others, $35. Price includes museum entrance and transportation, meals not included. Registration and payment deadline is June 5.

• Chicago Cultural Heritage Museums IV (Friday, June 21)
Conclude the tour of Chicago’s heritage museums with the Chinese-American Museum of Chicago and The Jane Addams Hull House Museum at UIC. Explore Chinatown and Little Italy. Bus leaves at 8:30 a.m and returns at 6:30 p.m. Members, $30, students and seniors, $35, all others, $40. Price includes museum fees and transportation, meals not included. Registration and payment is due by June 7.
