SYCAMORE – The 16th annual Cinco de Mayo Festival by Taxco Restaurant Too and Discover Sycamore will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday, May 5.
Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexican victory over Napoleon’s army, which had a direct impact on the French’s ability to fund the Confederacy during our own Civil War. This relatively small battle had a big impact on the present-day United States, so it is a celebration for all.
The event is held on Bill Johnson Boulevard, behind Taxco Restaurant Too, 223 W. State St. in Sycamore.
This celebration will feature live music, a beer garden and a margarita bar. From 1 to 8 p.m., families will enjoy live music and dancers, games for children, more than 20 pinatas, eating contests, climbing walls, dancing contests and more. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day, and, of course, there will be authentic Mexican food and beverages. The event is open to the public. Tickets for food and games can be purchased at the event. All proceeds support local nonprofit organizations. Over the past 15 years, the event has raised more than $100,000 for local nonprofits.
