Published: Tuesday, April 16, 2013 11:50 a.m. CDT

SHABBONA – Finally: a fishing contest for everyone, on the same day, in the same place with great prizes.

Shabbona Lakeside Bait & Tackle will host a Mega Fish Contest Weekend April 20 and 21 at Shabbona Lake. Participants must donate $5 to the Walleye Restocking Fund to participate.

Catch the biggest fish and win an all-day free pontoon rental ($190 value) or bass boat rental ($165 value) at Shabbona Lake during the 2013 season (Monday through Friday, cannot be redeemed on holidays).

Hours are 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days. Those who sign up on Saturday will be automatically signed up for Sunday as well. Only fish caught after registration are eligible to win; any fish caught prior to signing up for the contest cannot be entered.

Winning fish will be determined by weight, except muskie, which will be determined by length. Winning fish must exceed these minimum size limits:

• Muskie must be more than 40 inches long. Call 815-824-2581 to have someone come to the boat to measure the fish; do not bring in muskie. Muskie smaller than 48 inches brought into Lakeside will be disqualified, as it is illegal to transport an undersized muskie.

• Walleye must be more than 18 inches

• Large-Mouth Bass must be more than 14 inches

• Small-Mouth Bass must be more than 14 inches

• Striped Bass must be more than 17 inches

• Crappie must be more than 12 inches

• Bluegill must be more than 8 inches

• Catfish must be more than 24 inches

Fish must be alive when measured. Anglers are encouraged to release fish as soon as they have been measured. At least one witness must be present to verify each catch. There is a limit of one prize per person.

For more information call 815-824-2581 or visit www.shabboalake.com.
