SYCAMORE – The DeKalb County Community Foundation is taking applications for a scholarship that focuses on education beyond an undergraduate degree. The Spinoso Masters Scholarship, worth up to $10,000, is available to graduates of DeKalb County high schools who are working on furthering their formal education.

Offered for the first time in 2012, the scholarship was developed by the Spinoso family of Sycamore when they discovered a lack of scholarship assistance beyond a bachelor’s degree. They recognize a compelling need to build leaders for the future, and continued education will be necessary to give the future leaders a strong foundation.

“We see the leaders of tomorrow should be well educated as well as good citizens. DeKalb County, Illinois has been an excellent place to raise our family and want to give back to our community,” said Vivian and John Spinoso.

The Spinoso family has lived in Sycamore for more than 30 years. Last year’s scholarship recipients were Ashley Erwin of Somonauk, Laura Hawkins and Peter Brulle of Sycamore and Mary Bohne of DeKalb.

Although eligible applicants must have graduated from a DeKalb County high school, they need not currently live in DeKalb County. Candidates can find guidelines, criteria and an application on the community foundation’s website, www.dekalbccf.org. Applications are due Friday, June 14. For more information contact Becky Zantout, Grants and Community Initiatives Manager, at 815-748-5383 or becky@dekalbccf.org.
