Scouts clean up cemetery for Memorial Day service

Boy Scout Troop 40, Sycamore, and several adult volunteers helped to clean up Joiner Cemetery west of Sycamore in preparation for the Memorial Day service.

SYCAMORE – On Saturday, May 11, Sycamore Boy Scout Troop 40 and a few adults cleaned up the Joiner Cemetery in preparation for the Memorial Day Service on Monday, May 27.

Troop 40 and adult volunteers have helped to clean up the cemetery, on West Old State Road just east of Five Points Road and west of Sycamore, since 2005.

The Memorial Day Service will begin at 8:15 a.m. Retired Maj. Gen. Emile P. Bataille will be the keynote military VIP speaker.

Bataille will also appear at the Mayors’ Memorial Day Breakfast from 6:45 to 7:30 a.m. that day at the Jane Fargo Hotel in Sycamore. There will be a short program after the breakfast before Bataille leaves for the Joiner Cemetery.

Bataille is also scheduled to speak at ceremonies at 10 a.m. in Malta and at noon in Genoa.
