DeKALB – Wooden Box Theater will present a theatrical take on the Grateful Dead Sunday, June 30, at The House Cafe in DeKalb.

Grateful Dead Nite will feature new local music artists and new interpretations of Grateful Dead classics. The event will also include theatrical skits, poetry reading and fashion.

The fashion segments will be led by group members Daerielle Culver and Brittany Todtz, who will also star in the theatrical segments. The event will include dramatic scenes and themed belly-dance performances on the House Cafe stage.

Grateful Dead Nite will help Wooden Box Theater celebrate its seventh anniversary at the House Cafe, since debuting during the regular open mic night in the summer of 2006. Wooden Box alumni from the group’s early years in Geneva will join the current cast for the show.

The music lineup for the event includes hip-hop, R-and-B, acoustic and hard rock.

“The rewarding thing about this event and its planning has been that many of these acts are discovering the music of the Grateful Dead specifically for this event,” event co-organizer Dan Sherrill said. “They are giving this great music a fresh perspective and making it their own.”

“We are looking forward to utilizing The House Cafe and the wealth of talent in the area to give the music of the Grateful Dead a fresh, revitalized look and sound as we embark on this amazing annual series of events each summer,” Sherrill added.
