Concert to end with stargazing party
DeKALB – The DeKalb Municipal Band will present a special “Music of the Galaxy and Star Gazing” concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, at the Hopkins Park band shell in DeKalb. Featured artists will be vocalist Mark Robinson, trumpeter Mark Baldin and the Naperville Astronomy Club.
Robinson, of DeKalb, was born in Puerto Rico. He has an eclectic musical background as a vocalist and instrumentalist. Vocal studies with Linda Jaskoviak were influential in developing his vocal tone and concepts. He studied at Millikin University, the Military School of Music and Northern Illinois University. He plays second French horn in the Kishwaukee Symphony Orchestra and has been principal horn in the municipal band since 2006.
Upon entering boot camp of the U.S. Marine Corps in 1990, Robinson focused on French horn. He played the horn and saxophone in the Marine band and sang with the jazz band. In the Marine Corps band, he played and sang for dignitaries, presidents and celebrities like Bob Hope, Ginger Rogers, President Gerald Ford and Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf.
