SHABBONA – Walleye Contest Weekend is June 29 and 30 at Shabbona Lake.

At this time of year, walleye are actively feeding along the weed lines. Thanks to donations to the walleye restocking fund over the past few years, the lake has an excellent population of walleye.

The event runs from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day. This is a one-fish weigh-in event. If a fisherman catches a heavier walleye after weighing one in, they can upgrade the weight. There is a limit of one prize per person. Those who register for Saturday will be automatically registered for both days of the event.

First prize is a choice of a $100 gift certificate to Lakeside Bait, Tackle & Boat Rental or an all-day weekday pontoon or bass boat rental. Second prize is a choice of a $50 gift certificate to Lakeside or an all-day weekday motor boat rental. Third prize is a choice of a $25 gift certificate to Lakeside or an all-day weekday kayak or canoe rental.

To register, visit Lakeside Bait, Tackle & Boat Rental. The fee is a $5 donation to the walleye restocking fund. Anglers must sign up and pay the fee before making a catch to qualify. Only fish caught during the hours of the event will be considered. Fish must be alive when measured. Catch and release is encouraged. One witness must be present to verify the catch when it is entered. Winners will be determined by weight.
