Free patriotic concert this weekend
DeKALB – The Patriotic Cantata of the First United Methodist Church of DeKalb’s Celebration Chorale will be held June 29 and 30 at Boutell Memorial Concert Hall in the Northern Illinois University Music Building. No tickets will be needed for this free concert, but a free-will offering will be accepted.
The program, titled “Freedom,” will be an expression of freedom and patriotism, including a salute to the military and patriotic favorites such as “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor,” “We Shall Overcome” and “Letters from Home.”
More than 50 musicians from many different churches and organizations are scheduled to perform. Jazz in Progress will provide the instrumental music for the performance. There will be a special number by the children’s choir and bell choir; a reading of the words of Martin Luther King; a special salute to all branches of the armed services and more. “Freedom” is being directed by Christine Monteiro.
