‘Grandpa Ukulele’ gives Sycamore concert

Published: Tuesday, July 2, 2013 12:10 p.m. CDT

SYCAMORE – Grandpa Ukulele will give an interactive musical presentation at the Sycamore History Museum on Wednesday, July 10 as part of the museum’s summer concert series.

Grandpa Ukulele – otherwise known as Steve Keefe – performs a solo show of folk music and family sing-alongs.

Keefe learned how to play the ukulele at the Old Town School of Music in Chicago. He also was part of a jug band featured in The Chicago Root and Folk Festival, at Navy Pier and at a number of local festivals.

This event is designed to engage the audience. Pack a picnic dinner or dessert, but be ready to jump up and join in the performance by playing the washboard, spoons and kazoos.

The free concert will begin at 7 p.m. outside the museum, 1730 N. Main St., Sycamore. If it rains, it will move inside the museum garage. Call 815-895-5762 or visit sycamorehistory.org for more information.
