Young angler almost beats record

Erica Peterson, 4, of Genoa came within one-tenth of a pound of breaking the record for heaviest walleye caught at Shabbona Lake. On Saturday, July 13, Erica caught a 29.5-inch, 9.8-pound walleye on a slip bobber and a leech. The lake's record is a 9.9-pound walleye. Erica fishes at the lake each week with her father, Eric, pictured. The fish was released.
