SYCAMORE – StudioM Dance Company will host its third annual National Dance Day Dance Clinic in downtown Sycamore at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27.
National Dance Day is a grassroots campaign, started in 2010, that encourages Americans to embrace dance as a fun and positive way to maintain good health and combat obesity. Each year the DizzyFeat Foundation,in conjunction with the hit television show, “So You Think You Can Dance,” creates instructional dance videos for people to learn, perform and share with others. These dances are created by “So You Think You Can Dance” choreographers and cater to a range of dance abilities so that anyone can take part.
This year, DizzyFeat co-presidents Nigel Lythgoe and Adam Shankman choreographed an “Everybody Dance” routine for people of all levels of ability, and choreographers Napoleon and Tabitha Dumo created a “Hip-Hop Master Class” routine for those who want to challenge themselves. Members of StudioM’s Performance Plus Troupe will teach the “Everybody Dance” at the clinic.
At the end of the clinic, both routines will be performed for the public, and the Performance Plus Troupe will give a special performance. The free event is open to dancers of all ages.
National Dance Day T-shirts will be available to purchase for $10 each.
