Republicans nominate Johnson for clerk
DeKALB — The DeKalb County Republican party wants Douglas Johnson to replace John Acardo as the county’s clerk and recorder.
Johnson garnered more than 92 percent of the vote Aug. 25 at the party caucus to nominate a candidate to finish Acardo’s term, which expires November 2014. Acardo announced July 31 that he was leaving his elected office to work as the human resources director for Kishwaukee College in Malta.
Johnson has been on the DeKalb County Board of Review, which hears property tax assessment appeals and evaluates disability exemptions, for 10 years, DeKalb County Board chairman Jeff Metzger said. Johnson also was a Sandwich police commissioner between 2003 and 2008 and a Sandwich School District 430 board member between 2000 and 2004.
