Program looks for answers to human rights abuses
DeKALB – A program on human rights abuses in Sri Lanka and around the world will be held from 7:15 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, in the Illinois Room of the Holmes Student Center on the campus of Northern Illinois University.
The program, “Never Again! Human Rights in Sri Lanka: Disappearances and Political Killings,” will feature several speakers, music and poetry. It is free and open to the public.
The United Nations, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Freedom from Torture, the European Union, and the U.S. Department of State have all expressed concern about the state of human rights in Sri Lanka. Human rights and humanitarian organizations have documented human rights violations, war crimes, disappearances and political killings. This program asks, “What can be done?”
