DeKALB – The Northwest Suburban Astronomers (NSA), in cooperation with the DeKalb County Forest Preserve District, will host a public star party on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Afton Forest Preserve on Crego Road south of DeKalb.

Look at stars, galaxies, nebulae and star clusters with the help of NSA member telescopes. Participants are also welcome to bring their own telescopes or binoculars. Highlights will be Venus, the Double Star Cluster in Perseus, the Andromeda Galaxy (M31), Globular Cluster M15, Open Cluster M34 and the Pleiades Star Cluster.

Dress for a cold evening and bring a flashlight covered with red plastic or cellophane (red light preserves your night vision). Participants should arrive at the north entrance to the preserve about 6 p.m. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be canceled. There is no cost to attend and no registration is required.

Afton Forest Preserve is located at 13600 Crego Road, about one mile east of Route 23 and one mile south of Perry Road.
