Snacks can be part of a healthy diet

Published: Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2014 2:00 a.m. CDT

SYCAMORE – Many people take in as much as 25 percent of their daily calories from between-meal snacks. This isn’t a problem if snack choices are healthy and not treated as “additional” calories, but part of our daily caloric needs.

Marilyn Csernus, University of Illinois Extension nutrition and wellness educator and MS, RD, CDE registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, will present “Healthy Snacking” at the DeKalb County Extension office, 1350 W. Prairie Drive in Sycamore, at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27. Learn how to be snack savvy by choosing healthier snack options and appropriate portion sizes for snacks. Recipes and a healthy snack will be provided.

The fee for this program is $5. Registration is preferred by Feb. 25. For more information or to register, visit web.extension.illinois.edu/bdo or call the DeKalb County Extension office at 815-758-8194.

If you need a reasonable accommodation to participate in this program, contact the DeKalb County Extension office at 815-758-8194.
