Open Air Markets to begin May 24

GENOA – The 2014 Genoa Open Air Market season is upon us.

“With a strong six years behind us, we are planning to have the most fresh and lively open air markets yet,” said Jen Bristow, the new Genoa Main Street executive director.

Vendor space for the first market, on May 24, is quickly filling with long-established vendors and new businesses adding variety to the markets. This year, Main Street plans to add entertainment and family activities to the markets, using a different theme each month.

The market is located on Route 72 in Genoa's business district, which is passed by about 10,000 vehicles each day. Vendors find the high-traffic location an ideal place to reach the public. Vendors include farmers, home-based businesses and nonprofit organizations. Some use the markets as a way to test their products or services on the local market at a low cost. Downtown merchants and restaurants also benefit from the influx of new people downtown.

Markets will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the fourth Saturday of each month, May through September. The October market has been discontinued due to the unpredictability of October weather.

Vendor reservations can be made online at genoamainstreet.org, by calling the Main Street office at 815-784-6961, or by sending email to mainstreetgenoa@gmail.com.
