DeKALB – Girls on the Run of Northwest Illinois (GOTRNWIL), celebrating its fourth year serving girls in DeKalb County, will be hosting its second annual Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday, May 17, at Hopkins Park in DeKalb. The race begins at 8:30 a.m. and is open to the community.
“This race is unlike any other in our community,” said Naomi Faivre, DeKalb County coordinator. “Over 350 girls, running buddies and community runners are expected for this event. Our 5K is truly a celebration of each and every girl who participates in our program and it is the final lesson for the girls and a way to let them shine."
The event is non-competitive, though there will be a clock at the finish line for those interested in their time.
“Every runner receives a race bib with the number 1,” Executive Director Laurie Dayon said. “Every girl is a superstar. It doesn’t matter what place she finishes in, it’s crossing the finish line that lets her know she can do anything.”
Cost for the event is $35. Registration for the event is at www.gotrnwil.org.
