Sycamore urges residents to sign up for alert system

Published: Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014 10:26 a.m. CST

SYCAMORE – A CodeRED emergency notification system will soon be implemented in Sycamore.

CodeRED allows city officials to use phone calls, text messages, emails and social media to inform residents about evacuations, storm-related emergencies, hazardous material spills, lockdowns, downed power lines, water system problems, missing people or other emergencies.

Everyone living in the city of Sycamore or Sycamore Fire Protection District is encouraged to visit cityofsycamore.com and select the CodeRED link to enroll contact information, such as cellphone numbers and email addresses. Registration is free. The city already has an initial database of residential and business phone numbers.

Those who need to register but do not have Internet access may use the Sycamore Public Library computer lab during business hours.

In one month, the city will conduct a performance test of the notification system. For information, visit cityofsycamore.com.
