Have you ever had a bad day on – well, a really bad day? I did last week.
Welcome to The MidWeek’s prom edition.
It’s something I’ll never forget. I was covering a high school girls soccer match one Saturday morning. The Lady Spartans had just won in overtime to clinch the regional title. The flood waters are finally receding and while some folks in our area saw some property damage, we’re lucky we didn’t bear the brunt of the flooding like the Peoria area or communities along the Fox River and the Des Plaines River. In the 90 th  District, both LaSalle County and DeKalb County were declared disaster areas by Gov. Quinn. The official designation for those counties will bring additional state resources for recovery and repair efforts. If you live outside a disaster area but still saw some personal property damage from the floods, you may still be eligible for a low-interest recovery loan through the state treasurer’s office. I don’t run. I don’t like to run. When people ask me to run, my standard response is if you see me running, something scary is probably chasing me. Or I heard the ice cream truck.
When I was growing up, I was a big comic book reader. It started with my mother reading to me until I became old enough to read them myself.
Zero waste is defined as diverting 90 percent of trash from landfills by recycling and composting. According to John Dunsing, Jewel-Osco’s Environmental Sustainability Manager, 37 Jewel-Osco stores are currently achieving zero waste, with several stores diverting as much as 97 percent of their waste stream.
